Our history

A state vision shaped into a centre for technical learning.

The Polytechnic's roots go back to late 1992, when the newly created Yobe State Government decided to establish a state polytechnic in Damaturu to strengthen technical education. The plan changed after the Federal Government established Federal Polytechnic Damaturu in May 1993.

Yobe State Polytechnic was subsequently established in Geidam in 2002. It was later renamed Mai Idriss Alooma Polytechnic in honour of Mai Idris Alooma, the celebrated ruler of the Kanem-Bornu Empire.

  1. 1992

    Yobe State proposed a state polytechnic focused on technical education.

  2. 1993

    Federal Polytechnic Damaturu was established, changing the original state plan.

  3. 2002

    Yobe State Polytechnic was established at its permanent home in Geidam.

  4. Today

    MIAPOLY continues its state-owned mandate across technical and professional fields.
